Heather Ralston was in tenth grade, attending John Adams High School, when she was asked out by tenth grader Eric Matthews. He took her to a Philadelphia Phillies game. While Heather knew what to say or do, Eric spilled food, tripped over chairs and did not have anything to say to her for the nine innings of the game. Eric considered the date a failure, but was convinced by his younger brother Cory to call Heather and ask for another date.[1] This was successful, and Eric later tried to put an image of Heather onto his digital watch.[2] Heather and Eric went on another date, where Eric give Heather a hickey. She then called to complain about it later, and Eric told her that if she wore a turtleneck, no one would notice.[3]
