"The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" is the fifteenth episode of season three of Boy Meets World, and the 60th episode overall. It first aired on February 2, 1996. The episode was written by Kevin Kelton and directed by Jeff McCracken.
Plot[]
Shawn really likes Dana Pruitt. They get along very well on their first date, making out most of the time. But when they try to plan a second date, they realize how much different they are. Shawn doesn't do volunteer work. Shawn doesn't like picnics. Dana seems very intimidated, and she later admits that she'd like to date Cory. Shawn, as much as he dislikes it, lets him go, but waits at his house for hours for him to return. He grills Cory about how it went, and learns that they didn't kiss or do anything, because that's not how Cory is.
Desperate to get Dana to date him again, Shawn turns to Topanga for advice. She says that Shawn isn't considered boyfriend-material because of his ladies man reputation. She says that any girl who dates him is afraid that he'll just get bored and dump them after a few dates. Shawn, shaken by this, asks Turner what he should do. Turner tells him that his best relationship is with Cory, a very non-flashy, down-to-Earth person. He says Shawn should show Dana that he was listening to her, unlike other girls in the past, to prove that he really wants to be her boyfriend. Shawn does this, making a picnic outside of Chubbie's in the freezing Philadelphia winter, and impresses Dana, winning her back.
Meanwhile, Mr. Williams suggests that Eric tries out for an internship at his old news station, WIXB. Even though he is a long shot due to his grades, Eric gets really excited. He is so nervous that he blows his interview with an important executive. Dejected, Eric tells the janitor about how it is more important to him because he needs it more. The janitor says that Eric has the job. Confused, Eric asks how that's possible. The janitor reveals that he isn't the janitor, but Pat Darby, manager of the news station.
